What floats? What sinks?
We were learning about floating and sinking. We wanted to find out what floats and what sinks.
Some of the things we learned is that some materials float first then they soak up the water and become heavy.
It was fun. We liked discovering that something we thought would float actually sunk.
Trace liked being a scientist and discovering new things.
We learned some new vocabulary like density, buoyancy, and mass.

Our Plays!
We have been doing plays during our reading time. We read them with Whaea Chloe, choose our characters, get our props and then practice performing them. Our whole class comes out and watches us perform. It has been fun and we like getting into character and changing our voice and actions to suit our character. We did one about a sad clown who makes sad jokes and a pirate one about treasure.

Our School Fun Run!
Today we walked down town and caught the train out to the United Kawakawa rugby grounds with the rest of our school for our school fun run.
We got to run the course and do the awesome activities like hurdles (under and over), tyre run, and even a color chalk run. We had so much fun and Room 1 loved going on train dressed in our house colors.
We played fun activities with Matua Bodean that we can teach Whaea Chloe and play when we have fitness.
Some of our classmates made it to the inter-schools cross country. Well done Nikau, Bailey-Trent, Vontayveiz and Legacee.

Our Assembly
This week Room one had our assembly. It was so much fun and we are getting way better at talking on stage, using a microphone and presenting in front of an audience. We shared our growth mindset plays and our cucket fulling. We also shared our narrative writing. We had a special house chant competition at the end which was really cool. Whaea Chloe made this video of the house chants.

Then and Now
We have been learning about the olden days and comparing what we do now to what people used to do. This is some of what we have learnt. We also wanted to know what our awa might have been used for in the olden days and now.
The awa was used for collecting kai, water, transport (waka), fun, washing and bathing. Now we mostly use our awa for leisure and recreation like swimming, kayaking and eeling for fun.

Kahurangi NZ Maori Dance Company
This week were lucky enough to have the Kahurangi NZ Maori Dance Company come and perform for us. We loved watching them and learning some new maori hand games. They performed an awesome matariki dance/show and we learnt a lot about the star cluster and meaning/traditions of matariki. This was cool because we had done matariki in term 2 and now we got to refresh what we had learnt.
