Swim Safe!

We have been learning how to keep ourselves safe in and around the water. We loved learning about wearing life jackets, getting into chains and huddles and rescueing each other from the water. It was lots of fun and now we can teach others how to do this or use it in real life if we ever have to. We also found getting life jackets on in the water very challenging and know why it is so important to put them on before going on a boat or kayak etc.

LEGO Challenge

We have been doing a few LEGO challenges in our class as it is helping us build relationships with our peers. It is also helping us develope lots of collaboration and communication skills. We had to create a Marble Run out of LEGO. It was lots of fun but some of us found it a bit tricky too. We liked testing evryones marble runs and seeing whos worked and whos needing some changes to help it work. We then voted on the one that was very creative and actually worked. We hope we can do another LEGO challenge soon!!

Class Treaty

We enjoyed creating our class treaty together and having an input into how we would like our class to run this year. We did a bus stop activity to answer these questions: HWhat do you want your class to FEEL like? What do you want your class to SOUND like? What do you want your class to LOOK like? What will you NOT stand for in your class? What rewards should you get for demonstrating our values being an amazing learner? What consequences should you get if you make some silly choices? The tamariki came up with some amazing answers to these questions and were able to work collaboratively to create their class treaty.

Secret Garden Club!

We were lucky enough to be involved in the School Kit unit which involved the Little Garden from New World. We received a whole set of the little garden seeds to plant. The tamariki enjoyed learning how to plant and care for seeds and loved watching them grow into seedlings. We then repotted them to get ready to plant in our school garden. We also had to crack secret codes, learn new games, write about vegetables and PLEDGE TO THE VEG! This means we agree to try new vegetables!!!

Balance Buckets!

We were lucky to receive some balance buckets today and the tamariki had lots of fun creating a bit of an obstacle course using the balance buckets. They tried to walk forwards and backwards, hop and even miss some buckets out while using them as a challenge. It was lots of fun!

Aboriginal Clapping Sticks

We have been learning about the Aboriginal culture and decided to create some Aboriginal clapping sticks as these are a traditional instrument that the aboriginal people make and use to create amazing music. We used paint stirrers and painted them. Once they were dry we used paint pens to create dot art and symbols on the sticks.

Here is a video of us using our clapping sticks!

Film Festival Movie

We created this stop motion movie for our film festival. We loved learning how to create stop motion movies and also had to do lots of problem solving of how we were going to create a movie all about what Kiwi would see or do in Australia.
We hope you enjoy it!

Dragon Eyes!

We have read the big book Dragons! Dragons! Dragons! this week and we decided to create some art to go with it.
We have created Dragon eyes using vivid, crayon, dye and glitter.
These were lots of fun to make and we love how our dragon eyes turned out.
Check them out in person if you are in our class.

Playground!!

We love spending time on the senior playground to build our confidence, team work, movement and problem solving skills. There is lots of new, exciting and tricky activities for us that help us to overcome our fears and we feel very BRAVE!

These photos were taken when we were find shapes in our playground. We found lots of shapes like circles, squares, rectangles, ovals, and triangles.

Elections!

We have been learning about the Elections. This was interesting because we all recognised the Prime Minister from the TV over lock-down. We got into parties (groups) and had to say why people should vite for us. This was funny because we all have funny names for our parties. We also made Vote For Me posters and these were based on what a good class leader would be/do. Here are a few of our posters.
